Digital Camcorders:-With HD Or Without?

Digital camcorders-with HD or without?

The benefit of buying a camcorder that supports Full HD is in the quality of the clip being recorded. Although the difference is only slight in comparison to another camcorder the picture quality is clearly visible.

As they say quality speaks for itself.

When recording in HD mode the file sizes that get saved are large and need a lot of disk space this is why the majority of HD camcorders will come with Blu-ray discs as apposed to dvd’s.

To view the quality of a HD recorded movie or clip from your camcorder there are 3 things that you will need

JVC HD Camcorder Review

JVC is leaping into the future. They came up with the world’s first ever affordable HDTV pro-camcorder. If you can canvass the stores, you’ll realize that HD camcorders are very expensive.

On average, a model costs $50,000. This is pretty much the same price range as those of professional videographers.

But for those who just want to make their own good quality home videos, they can always turn to the JVC HD Camcorder.

JVC has developed a system which answers the demand for cheaper camcorders. This marvel allows the user to record high definition videos at 30 frames per second. The recordings are stored on inexpensive mini DV cassettes.

Each cassette can record up to 63 minutes. These videos can be played back directly from the JVC HD Camcorder or onto an HDTV monitor with the component inputs. The results are so startling because this is nothing you’ve seen in any camcorder.

To think you paid for the model at a cheaper price compared to the other camcorders available in the market today.

The JVC HD Camcorder is also used to make scan recordings in the 480/60P mode. This is ideal for viewing today because most people use their high-quality DVD players. The JVC HD Camcorder is compatible with these kinds of models.

And of course, the user must make it a standard recording if they are going to save the video in the Mini DV format compatible. They have to check the wide range of systems that go with the JVC HD Camcorder.

In order for them to maximize these features, they have to know the capabilities and specs of their camcorder and see if these go with the systems available for their purchase.

Most users wonder how JVC HD Camcorder made this possible. This is because JVC is the pioneer of data compression. It is also one of the original licensors of the MPEG compression technology.

They already developed the technology for the high definition code (decoder, encoder), so they simply just had to pack the HD recording as well as the playback feature into a tiny camcorder and make it possible for Mini-DV digital cassettes to store the videos.

As much as possible, they want their customers to save because this is their advantage over their camcorders.

Aside from this, JVC has also allowed the bitstream recording of any high definition data as long as it is in MPEG-2 format. This allows the camera to act as a standard Mini-DV camcorder just by flipping the switch.

JVC has incorporated its past inventions along with this revolutionary model in order for customers to buy more models from them.

They also made it relatively cheap so that they can get their money back because surely a lot of users will opt for this model.

Canon VIXIA HF20 HD Camcorder

If you are looking for a HD video camera that is compact, light, and has all the latest features, look no further than the Canon VIXIA HF20 HD camcorder. This is one of the latest camcorder models from Canon and is currently, arguably one of the most advanced consumer models in the market.

This new model comes with a memory card slot in addition to its internal hard drive. You can choose to save your recording in either the 32GB built-in flash drive or directly into the memory card. Weighing at just 12 ounces (and 4.9” x 2.4″ x 2.8″ in dimensions), it is one of the smallest HD video camera I have come across.

Unlike many camcorders, the Canon VIXIA HF20 HD camcorder comes with a powerful 3.89mp image sensor that not only captures amazing videos but also high-resolution still images. It has a 15x optical zoom and has the Instant AF (auto focus) feature. The Instant AF features allow you to capture crisp and clear videos even when shooting fast moving objects from a distance.

One of my favorite features on the Canon VIXIA HF20 HD camcorder is the 24p mode. This is a mode that allows you to capture ‘cinema-like’ videos. The videos captured under this mode have a professional look to it, great for capturing beautiful scenery and making short films. If you plan to extract still images from your videos, you can also choose to shoot with the 30p mode. This mode is great for fast video sequences as it captures images at the frame rate of 60i.

This model has a huge 2.7-inch LCD display that show great previews of the videos taken. It has a anti-reflection layer on it that allows you to view the display easily even in a bright lighting ambiance. Despite the amount of features, it was menu configurations were surprisingly easy to use. At the time of writing, I have yet to test out all the features they have on the Canon VIXIA HF20 HD camcorder but I am already a heck of a time using it!

Canon VIXIA HFS100 HD Camcorder

Specifications: The Canon VIXIA HFS100 camcorder is currently one of my favorite models in the market. It is a HD video camera that comes with an 8.59MP image sensor. When on still mode, it can capture still images with up to 8.02MP in resolution. This model comes with a pop-up flash and also a tiny remote control. It has 10x of optical zoom and up to 200x in digital zoom. The lens on this camcorder has a 6.4mm – 64 mm focal length. It also has a spacious 2.7-inch LCD display that can be rotated in various directions. It doesn’t have any internal storage where all the videos are stored directly into the SD card. In terms of connectivity, it has a component video output, microphone ports, headphone ports, 1 USB port, a HDMI and composite audio/video output. This camcorder ships with a battery pack, power adapter, manuals, video editing software, USB cable, stereo video cable, wireless controller and a component cable.

Design: The powerful specs of the Canon VIXIA HFS100 camcorder is balanced by stylish designs. This camera has black exterior (with a hint of silver glossiness). The whole camcorder looks like a short solid cylinder with the LCD screen attached to one of its sides. The camera lens looks huge in proportion to the rest of the camera, giving it a very professional look. I think this model is one of Canon’s best looking cameras! It measures at 2.8 x 5.4 x 2.7 inches and weighs at just 15.9 ounces.

Features & Performance: The Canon VIXIA HFS100 camcorder has a new custom dial that allows you to conveniently select custom settings. Most of the external controls were very well placed where your fingers can easily reach it. The menu interface has also gone through some noticeable improvements (it has a smoother feel). The quality of the videos recorded at 17 and 24Mbps were very impressive. Exposures were excellent at the colors were very realistic. An optical viewfinder and a more sturdy lens cover would have made it the perfect camcorder. The Canon VIXIA HFS100 camcorder may be a little on the pricey side, but if you can spare the extra cash, it is definitely worth every penny.

Flip Slide HD Camcorder Review

The Flip Slide HD Camcorder is the new item from Flip Video. It’s an advanced version of their previous Mino HD camcorder, and the Flip Slide HD has improved on the predecessor in many ways.

I purchased the original Flip and had a blast with it. Each product increasingly became better. Then came the well known and much hyped iPhone 3GS. It took video; it wasn’t Hi Def video but it did an okay job. Thanks to a bunch of applications and the ability to upload on the go to the iPhone (and other similar smart phones); it posed a serious threat to the Flip. I couldn’t help wonder what Flip would do to stay competitive. Well now we do and it looks like Flip has gone in the direction of trying to make the Flip Slide HD Camcorder more useful on the go.

Let’s look at the specs for a second.

From Flip Video’s website:

• Simple to shoot: records up to 4 hours in stunning HD
• Holds up to 12 hours of videos, snapshots, movies, and Flip Channels?
• Create private Flip Channels to share your videos with groups of family and friends
• SlideHD is the world’s best shoot and show camcorder
• Shoot up to four hours of incredible HD video on the portable SlideHD

The interesting features to point out are the new sliding screen, which makes viewing video very painless and accessible. It’s a touchscreen as well, so that’s very easy to use. You can shoot four hours of footage in high definition, and store up to 12 hours of videos and pictures. The storage capacity is very surprising for such a sleek package.

The camcorder/camera also comes with preloaded software that lets you edit, organize and share videos and photos on the computer and with the internet. The Flip Slide HD is surprisingly customizable, with hundreds of different covers and graphics you can easily attach to it. The default colors are nice, but you can also put thousands of different decals on your phone before you buy.

I had a chance to get my hands on one, and it is very nice. I wish that I could have written a Flip Slide HD camcorder review sooner so more would have known about how cool it is.
